Photoshoot Questions

Tips and Commonly asked Questions

What should we Wear to our Photoshoot?

It is a great idea to keep to a colour theme when thinking about your family photoshoot.
I usually advise to start with an outfit that mum feels most confident in and work from there with the children next, then any other family members have some good base colours to work with. Try to keep it to a max of 4 colours in your pallet.

It often helps to think of the location we will be in, and work with those colours.
Feel free to send me a photo of your wardrobe options and we can visually see how well they work together.

I want to work with colours that suit your family Lifestyle - If you love Grafitti, Jumping shots and primary colours then whoohoo!
If your pallete is more subtle, then Id love to work with that too!
We are all beautifully Invididual, lets celebrate that!

Do you work with children who have special needs?

Absolutly! Please feel free to work with me on how I can create the best enviroment for your child to capture those moments of joy. Weather they need extra patience, distractions, particular sensory expieriences, I welcome the challenge to capture their attention.
My home Studio has weelchair access and off road parking.
No need to worry about the weather during studio sessions.
Most of my equipment can be raised off of the floor, safety is always a priority.

Is Time of Day Important?

This depends if you choose to go with an outdoor shoot or a studio Session.

Outdoor Locations are best within the last two hours of the day - the sunset hughes and angle of light are flattering and artistic.
Whereas during the day we would need to find shade to prevent harsh shadows, which can be very unflattering and not great for depth in backgrounds.

Studio Sessions are actually best during the day as the weather is not a factor and we can work around baby sleep times for example. Plus my children are at school! Although the weekend is also ideal.

How can you help create a great photosession?

Especially during a studio session I find It very helpful when parents want to help get some great smiles from their children - a few helpful tips would be:

  • Please know that I will do everything I can to get genuine smiles from children! However, If you are making funny faces or know what makes your children laugh, that is great too! But please stand diectly behind the photographer so that the children are looking in the right direction.
  • Please hold out on sugery treats for your children until after the shoot. They will just crave and crash early. Incentive for having fun usually is best!
  • If you have any tips for working with your children please feel free to let me know. Every little bit helps capture those natural smiles!
