Hello, My name is Pamela Moore

&nbsp

&nbsp

I’m Pamela, the photographer behind Play with LIGHT. I create bold, creative portrait experiences using light, movement, and atmosphere to capture something a little different and fun. What I love most is watching people step into the space unsure, and leave feeling confident, expressive, and proud of who they are. Whether it’s a simple proud grin or something full of energy, I'm drawn to the fun of creation and where personality, light, and emotion all come together.

How to Shutter-drag

This is my feet - They deserve some credit too!

The shutter-drag effect (or Light Wave, as i like to call it) Is created simply by using a long exposure time with my camera. Different times give different effects. I like to use around a 2 second shutter time to give my model a chance to enjoy the movement before the capture (the flash freezes the image) at the end of the time given. Hopefully you can see what i mean from the video?

This particular way to shutter-drag is by movement of the model and the camera stays still (on a tripod). In some of my other images you can see that I am at another angle and I have instead used the zoom of my lens.

  • This effect does need a little focus to get the hang of it - From the models perspective, it can be a bit much for some younger children to get the hang of, which is why i range from 8 - 18 year old's. But I have changed tactic for under that age before, where I use a First Curtain shutter Flash (gosh, technical sorry) Basically The flash goes off first and then the kids can move about freely. Or I can move instead of them. Feel free to ask about this if you have a younger child that might like to try this effect.
